The Orange Rili Shrimp is a vibrant and eye-catching color variant of the Neocaridina family. A direct descendant of the Orange Sakura line, these freshwater shrimp have been selectively bred to display a striking segmented look: a bright orange head and tail with a crystal-clear, translucent midsection. This high-contrast appearance makes them a dynamic addition to the shrimp aquarium, where they stand out beautifully against dark substrates and lush green plants.

Orange Rilis are exceptionally hardy and active shrimp. They are tireless scavengers, functioning as a natural clean-up crew by grazing on biofilm and algae throughout the shrimp tank. Because they are resilient and adapt easily to a wide range of water parameters, they are an ideal choice for beginners. Their playful patterns and social personalities make them one of the most popular choices for hobbyists looking to add a splash of warm, citrus color to their aquascape.

Recommended Tank Size
5+ gallons, minimum. Tank size is relative, and various factors should be considered when determining tank size. Like all social Neocaridina, they thrive in colonies. A 10-gallon tank is ideal for maintaining stable water quality while allowing your colony room to grow.

Algae, biofilm, diatoms, decaying plant matter, spirulina powder, bee pollen, plant-based shrimp pellets/wafers, blanched vegetables

Breeding
Orange Rili Shrimp are eager and prolific breeders. Sexing becomes straightforward at maturity; females are notably larger and display a visible "saddle" behind the head where eggs are stored. To ensure a thriving and self-sustaining colony, we recommend starting with 8–10 specimens to guarantee a mix of males and females.

The breeding cycle begins when a fertile female molts and releases pheromones, triggering the males into an active mating search. Once "berried," she carries the eggs for approximately 2–3 weeks. The fry hatch as fully formed, miniature versions of the adults. Always leave molted shells in the tank; the colony will consume them to recycle essential minerals like calcium for their next growth stage.

Keep in mind that if you are keeping shrimp with other species of fish, or possibly aggressive shrimp species, this may affect reproduction. If the shrimp feel threatened or don’t have places in your tank to hide, they may not breed.
