Product Overview

The Dymax eZ Filter is a high-performance internal aquarium filter system engineered to deliver complete 3-stage filtration for both freshwater and marine environments. Powered by a heavy-duty Dymax pump, it houses organized filter media baskets for easy maintenance and supports modular upgrades, including direct attachment of the Dymax IQ Skimmer for saltwater reef setups.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Complete 3-Stage Filtration Basket: Features modular compartments loaded with white wool (mechanical), activated carbon (chemical), and a biological sponge (biological) for crystal-clear water.
  • Dual-Level Intake Draw: Pulls water concurrently from both the upper surface and lower depths of the tank to clear floating debris and settled detritus.
  • Freshwater & Marine Compatible: Versatile internal design works seamlessly in planted freshwater displays, nano aquascapes, and marine saltwater setups.
  • Attachable Skimmer Upgrade: Integrates directly with the Dymax IQ Skimmer (sold separately) to combine protein skimming and biological filtration into a single compact unit.
  • High Surface Area Biological Housing: Porous sponge and media baskets foster massive colonies of beneficial nitrifying bacteria to cycle ammonia and nitrites.
  • Easy-Access Maintenance: Removable internal media basket allows for quick, mess-free filter pad cleaning and replacement.

Technical Specifications

Always rinse filter media in drained aquarium water to protect established nitrifying bacteria colonies.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What size aquarium is the Dymax eZ Filter best suited for?
The Dymax eZ Filter line is designed for tanks ranging from 60cm to 90cm in length and around 30cm in height, covering aquarium volumes from 27 gallons up to 53 gallons depending on the selected model (EF-20, EF-30, or EF-40).

2. Can I use the Dymax eZ Filter in a saltwater marine aquarium?
Yes! The eZ Filter is fully marine safe. For reef and saltwater setups, you can attach the Dymax IQ Skimmer directly to the unit so protein skimming and multi-stage filtration are handled by one consolidated internal system.

3. How should I clean the included filter media during routine maintenance?
Always rinse the biological sponge and filter basket in a bucket of drained aquarium water. Avoid tap water, as chlorine will destroy the beneficial nitrifying bacteria living inside the media.

Killed my fish by hypoxia :(

"I will preface this by saying I am not a fish keeping expert. But I do have an established 6 month old tank with some hardy fish. By hardy, I mean that I had a school of nano fish that did just fine when I did not understand the nitrogen cycle and hung out happily while I waited for pre-seeded filter to arrive. They did fine in a tank for a week when my power shut off and the filter did not work while I was away. They were from Petco and have lived happily in my maybe-too-small 10 gallon tank. This is what I mean when I say I am not an expert, but trying! I have never lost a fish. I decided to upgrade them to a 30 gallon tank. This filter was on sale so I got this for their new tank and moved some media. My fish were so happy! After two days though, I came home from work and saw everyone at the surface gasping for air. Quick google search told me this was due to a lack of oxygen. I immediately added 2 of my largest bubblers / wands and the HOB filter from the old tank to create surface agitation. Everyone seemed immediately relieved and in minutes, went back to the middle of the tank. The following morning however, I lost every single cardinal tetra. What I have left is my group of endlers, who I understand spend more time near the surface anyways. (for those doubtful, no my temperature was not too high: 72F, no my parameters were not off: I check every day, no I did not add any new fish/decor to the tank, no the tank was not overstocked: everyone had lived together in a 10 gallon for months prior) I am beyond heartbroken... I recognize that this is my mostly fault as I should have seen the surface biofilm and realized there was no air exchange. But I want to share with folks that (at least in the EF-30) the out nozzle is BELOW the "minimum water line" according to the manual and so this filter (which honestly was working great and really quiet) creates zero surface agitation. Maybe good if you just want to cultivate floater plants? I have never had this issue as I previously used sponge and hob filters. The filter has an option to add a surface skimmer but no spray nozzle or anything, which I would have otherwise expected from an internal filter. Does the filter work? Yes, but for others like me who may look to have this replace an existing filter... Please remember to consider aeration. I will be purchasing another filter :'("

    filter missing part

"Plants came great but the filter came without the nozel for the outlet from the pump so i had to use a small piece of hose that i cut and it fit so that the flow properly exited the filter."
