Cholla Wood is what happens when a prickly desert cactus retires. Derived from the dried husk of the Cholla Cactus, this hollow, porous aquarium wood is a functional powerhouse. Designed specifically as a functional hardscape piece for planted aquariums and shrimp setups, its iconic honeycomb structure serves as a natural factory for biofilm and a safe nursery for small aquatic life.

• Cholla is famous for stimulating the growth of biofilm, a natural, nutrient-rich film that serves as the primary food source for shrimp.
• The hollow center and perforated walls create the perfect "safe house" for molting shrimp and small fish to hide from larger tank mates.
• Its unique texture makes it incredibly easy to attach mosses, Anubias, or Bucephalandra. Over time, it can be transformed into a lush, living sunken log that anchors your planted aquarium hardscape.
• Cholla releases beneficial tannins that slightly lower pH levels, mimicking the natural blackwater environments in which many tropical species thrive.

Preparation & Care

1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
   
2. The Sinking Process: Dry Cholla is very lightweight and will float initially. To get it to stay put, we recommend soaking it in a bucket for 24–48 hours or boiling it for 20 minutes to help it become waterlogged.
   

Safety Disclaimer

This tunnel is best suited for freshwater shrimp or small fry. If you have larger, curious fish or other fauna (such as a betta fish) that may try to explore such small crevices, there is a risk they may get caught or stuck in the tunnel. Please be mindful of this before placing it in your aquarium.
