Manzanita is a branchy type of driftwood that’s perfect for adding fine detail to your aquascape. The pieces are sandblasted to show off their natural twists and textures, and they’re denser and tougher than Spiderwood, so they hold up well over time. It pairs beautifully with aquatic mosses and epiphytic plants in planted tanks, giving your scape a sculptural, natural look. Go ahead and branch out your design!

Product Features & Benefits

  • Manzanita’s naturally thin and twisting limbs allow you to create intricate tree-top effects or complex root systems.
  • Unlike the heavier leaching of other woods, Manzanita is much lighter in tannin content.
  • These branches are just as popular in terrariums and paludariums as they are in planted aquarium hardscapes, providing sturdy climbing structures that won't rot quickly in high humidity.
  • The smooth, pale surface serves as a beautiful high-contrast anchor for green mosses and epiphytes like Anubias.

Preparation & Care

Driftwood is a natural product and requires a bit of prep before it’s ready for prime time.

  1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
  2. The Floating Phase: Depending on the size, Manzanita will float a little initially. We recommend soaking it thoroughly or boiling it. A large stone or heavy decor may be placed on top to ensure a non-waterlogged piece of wood stays submerged.
  3. Tannin Management: While low in tannins, a quick boil can help fast-track the sinking process and ensure your water stays crystal clear. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag

Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.

I recently purchased both Spider

"I recently purchased both Spider Wood hardscape and UNS Controsoil for my aquascape, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The Spider Wood arrived in excellent condition with beautiful branching structure and tons of character. Each piece looked natural and unique, making it easy to create depth and visual interest in my aquarium. After soaking, it performed exactly as expected and has become the centerpiece of my aquascape. The UNS Controsoil has been equally impressive. The grain size is consistent, it’s easy to work with when building slopes and contours, and it provides a clean, professional look. The substrate holds its shape well and makes creating an attractive layout much easier. Overall, both products exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking to build a high-quality planted aquarium, I highly recommend Spider Wood and UNS Controsoil. Great quality, great appearance, and outstanding results."

Amazing wood for your hardscape.

"Just love the look of the Manzanita driftwood. My first time doing hardscaping and had to go with these and pair it with some dragon stones. I got into the hobby a few years back and started with the artificial decors, now leveling up to the real stuff along with some plants. Can’t wait to set everything up, still gathering a few more things for the project. Thanks Buce Plant for the prompt service and great quality of products."

Mahendra S. (5/5)

Great Piece of Driftwood

"Wood was very clean and arrived in perfect condition. Not a single branch was broken, even though some were very thin! The branch was a good size and very nice shape."
