Red River Slate is a natural red rock with occasional brown and white streaks and a semi-smooth finish. The coloration becomes significantly bolder when wet, showcasing a vibrant red color that provides a visually striking contrast when used with lush green plants in an aquascape. This stone has great stacking potential due to its relatively flat shape, making it an excellent choice for creating river or lake-inspired layouts or a waterfall effect in paludariums and terrariums. Red River Slate is also suitable for non-aquarium use and will work beautifully in any similar planted enclosures.

Stones vary in shape, size, and density.

Notes:

  • If you are looking for larger stones, a minimum weight may be required. Larger stones = higher weight. Email our team if you need assistance.
  • This is a natural product and has the potential to alter water parameters slightly.
  • We recommend rinsing stones thoroughly before use to remove any natural dust or sediment.
  • Stone coloration darkens when wet.

BUYER BEWARE

"BUYER BRWARE!!! I was sent 3 stones. 1 of which is 3 inches thick & almost 5 inches long. So instead getting several (which was pictured as 8, online when I ordered), I got 3 useless stones I can't use. When I emailed them I did get a response basically saying, Oh well that's how they are packaged from their supplier. I wanted to make a cave/bridge for my fish. . . but as you can see. . . that's not even possible. I took the 1 out of the tank because it looks stupid & my fish cant use it"

Lovely!

"Love these red river slate! There's a good variety of sizes and they will be perfect for the stacked-stone caves/hills I want to make! Not to mention, the delivery was insanely fast! I live in Alaska and they were delivered in less than 5 days from ordering!"

Better than expected and definitely worth it!

"I usually purchase stones from my local fish store but they happened to be out of stock of this rock so I shopped here instead. I was slightly worried due to never having rocks shipped before BUT I am pleasantly surprised by my pieces. I was hoping for some larger pieces but the 10lb was out of stock so I went with the 5lb and hoped for the best. I am VERY happy with the pieces I received- the only reason Its not a 5 star is because one of my smaller stones arrived cracked through the middle, but that’s not the end of the world for me :)"

"Beautiful slate! The pieces are larger than they look in photos"

Great stones

"Such a nice color of stone. Bought 10 lbs and ended up placing another 5 lb order because I like them so much. The red is veined with a pinkish-white on some stones and is so pretty!"

Freddie T. (5/5)

Perfect!

Good Mix of Size and Shape

"The pieces I received were a good mix of shape and size. Great examples of red river slate - color accents the other hardscape in the tank!"

Kobi E. (5/5)

Not what I hoped for.

"I was hoping for smaller pieces to make paths and such in terrariums. These are fist sized rocks that would never make a pathway. But could be used as focal points."

Q&A

I'm looking at the red slate and don't kknow if I should order 5 lbs. or 10 lbs. Can you give me any idea about the size (in inches) and/or number of stones I'd get for each of those weights?
Hi Dave, thank you for your question! Unfortunately, it is a bit difficult to provide you with the exact dimensions of each pound pack, as we cannot guarantee what is exactly available in our inventory. However, please feel free to email our customer service team, support@buceplant.com and they should be able to give you a general idea on the size based on what we currently have. Thank you, Team Buce Plant
