Flame Moss on Stainless Steel
Plant Profile
Common Names: Flame Moss, Taxiphyllum 'Flame'
If you want to add some serious heat to your aquascape without actually burning anything down, we have the moss for you. Flame Moss is known for its upward-pointing attitude, growing in spiraling, vertical shoots that mimic flickering flames. Since we have grown this fiery favorite directly onto a 3" x 3" stainless steel mesh pad, you do not have to play with fire (or messy aquarium glue) to get it to stay put. This unique vertical growth habit can truly ignite your scape, especially if you want to create a dense carpet across your substrate.
Key Features & Benefits
- The pre-attached stainless steel mesh pad naturally sinks right out of the box, letting you establish an instant carpet without fighting buoyant plants.
- Features a unique, vertically twisting growth habit that resembles flickering flames, adding dramatic architectural height and texture to horizontal surfaces.
- The dense, vertical columns provide a perfect, ultra-safe foraging forest and shelter for delicate shrimp and vulnerable newborn fish fry.
Care & Planting Instructions
- Place the metal mesh pad directly onto your substrate or nestle it firmly at the base of your driftwood where it can receive steady water circulation.
- Keep your aquarium parameters stable and avoid making rapid, drastic water changes to protect the delicate, spiraling fronds from sudden melting.
- Trim the moss occasionally using sharp aquascaping shears to keep the carpet even, clean, and growing back thicker.
- Provide clean weekly water changes and consider adding carbon dioxide injection if you want to accelerate its growth and intensify its vibrant green color.
- Propagate your layout down the road by simply cutting or pulling apart small clumps of new growth and securing them to other surfaces.
