Plant Profile
Java Moss is moss-tly famous for being the undisputed heavyweight live freshwater aquarium moss of the hobby, and it has earned its reputation for a good reason. This legendary aquatic plant staple can survive almost any water parameter or temperature swing you throw its way. Its deep green, thin, interlocking fronds grow in a wild, free-form pattern that is excellent for softening hard landscape lines or creating a natural, aged look on wood and rocks. We have pre-grown this bulletproof classic onto a weighted 3" x 3" stainless steel mesh pad so you can simply drop it straight to the bottom of your tank to form an instant foreground carpet or moss wall.
Key Features & Benefits
- Pre-attached stainless steel mesh pad sinks naturally to form an instant, low-profile foreground carpet with zero floating.
- Draping or placing this live moss near hardscape elements gives driftwood and stones a mature, weathered look that mimics wild riverbeds.
- Fine fronds create a sanctuary and continuous biofilm foraging zone for dwarf shrimp and fry.
Care & Planting Instructions
- Place the metal mesh pad directly onto your substrate for an instant carpet, bend it around hardscape, or mount it vertically against your glass.
- Maintain a stable aquarium environment and avoid sudden water parameter swings to keep your live moss vibrant and healthy.
- Give the moss fronds an occasional light haircut with sharp aquascaping shears to encourage denser, tighter growth.
- Propagate in seconds by snipping or pulling clumps apart and securing them to new hardscape surfaces throughout your tank.
- Optionally supply CO2 injection and low-to-medium LED lighting to accelerate growth rate and enhance foliage density.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I keep my Java Moss from turning brown or yellow?
Java Moss prefers clean water flow and cooler temperatures (under 78°F). Browning usually occurs when organic detritus gets trapped inside the fine, interlocking fronds or when water temperatures exceed 80°F. Gently siphoning debris off the moss during weekly water changes keeps the inner growth bright green.
2. How do I use the stainless steel mesh pad in my aquascape?
The 3" x 3" stainless steel mesh pad is naturally weighted to sink right out of the box. You can lay it flat on your substrate to form an instant carpet, bend the flexible metal around rocks and wood, or attach it vertically to glass to start a full moss wall backdrop.
3. How do I stop moss trimmings from spreading everywhere during maintenance?
Always turn off all aquarium filter pumps and powerheads before trimming moss. Use sharp curved aquascaping shears to make clean cuts, and immediately scoop or siphon out floating cuttings so they don't take root in unwanted areas of your aquarium.

Great product
"Very convenient mats of moss that can be dropped into strategic spots. You can also cut them into a few smaller patches for hardscape nooks with scissors. Shrimp took an immediate liking to their coarse carpets. I’m looking forward to them gradually spreading, softening their square edges."

Q&A
- I have a 55 gallon long. I want to put live plants in it for the first time. I want to carpet the gravel and have a heavily planted tank without CO2. How many plants should I get and how much moss.

- Does one pack include just one 3x3" piece for 12.99?
- Hi Justin, Thank you for reaching out to us. Each order will contain one 3x3 sheet of moss. This sheet can be cut or bent to the desired dimension or shape.
- Does the moss come preatached to the steel? What are the dimensions?
- Hi Jonah, Thank you for reaching out! The moss are attached onto the stainless steel mesh by a thin plastic mess. Moss will grow through the plastic mess, covering it and attaching onto the stainless steel mesh. Each unit is around 3in x 3 inches. If you need smaller pieces, you can easily cut through the mess with scissors. If you have any additional questions please let us know, we are happy to help! -Team Buceplant
