Common Name: Mini Bolbitis, Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis

Mini Bolbitis is a small leaf variant of Bolbitis Heudelotii. It’s a slow growing fern that can be grown submerged or emersed. Like Java Ferns, Anubias and Buce, the rhizomes can be attached directly onto wood or rock. Larger plants can be propagated by dividing along the rhizome and replanting.

Notes:

  • Bolbitis prefer to be placed in areas of an aquarium that experience higher flow rates.
  • Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.
  • Remove the wool surrounding the roots and plant above a quality substrate. For instructions on how to properly prep aquarium plants, click here.
  • Burying the rhizome will cause the plant to die
  • CO2 injection and quality aquarium soil will yield better growth.
  • Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.

Mini Bolbitis

"Ordered on a Friday, shipped on Monday, and arrived on Wednesday. Plants were in great shape, reasonably priced, and they gouge you on shipping. Would definitely recommend Buce Plant!"

James B. (5/5)

Very pretty!

"I am a newbie to buying plants online, so I accidentally bought way more than I needed. These are super cute and pretty easy to place, but I ended up running out of room in my tank and wish I had added these first!"

Abby (5/5)

Pleasantly Surprised

"I saw this plant was on sale and thought I'd add a few to fill in some empty space in my newly flooded tank. It's a nice little plant that adds a nice dark green contrast to the wood and monte carlo carpet. It adds a natural look to the hardscape."

Gideon (5/5)

Arrived in Great Condition!

"This plant arrived in excellent condition. Unfortunately, I was new at plant keeping when I got it and didn't ensure it had enough nutrients to survive"

Robert P. (5/5)

Nice little fern

"This is a great little plant that can be added to any “arium”…aquarium, terrarium, palladium, or vivarium. I grow it both immersed and emerged as an epiphyte."

Q&A

Do you recommend a 1:19 Bleach Dip for this plant upon arrival?
Hi Ashley, Thank you for reaching out to us. Yes we recommend a 1:19 bleach dip for most plants. For some more sensitive plants, the bleach can be more dilute. Best regards, Buceplant Team
Can this bolbitus be grown emersed in a terrarium?
Hi Ryan, Thank you for reaching out to us! Mini Bolbitis can be grown in a terrarium, but they will require a humid environment. They can be slowly transitioned to growing in dryer environments. Setting up a new tank, how long can these plants stay out of the water after arrival? may be 2-3 days before ready to plant. Thank you!
Hi John, Thank you for reaching out! Mini Bolbitis can be kept in a humid container with an appropriate light source for a few days. If you have any additional question or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us at support@buceplanthelp.zendesk.com. We are always happy to help! Best Regards, Buceplant Team
Can this be planted? I have it currently planted in some aquarium soil in a piece of drift wood. Or does the rhizome need to be above the substrate?
Hi Jon, This plant does best when attached to hardscape. Its rhizome should not be buried as it can lead to death and rot.
