Plant Profile

Common Names: Xmas Moss, Vesicularia Montagnei

Mini Christmas Moss is the ultra-compact, delicate version of standard Christmas Moss. It features much thinner, shorter fronds that grow in a tight, overlapping horizontal pattern, perfectly mimicking tiny pine boughs. It is a legendary favorite for shrimp breeders and nano-tank enthusiasts alike, providing a high-definition, micro-textured sanctuary that will not quickly overwhelm small spaces.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Offers the iconic, triangular evergreen growth pattern on a much smaller scale, making it perfect for detailed hardscape work in small tanks.
  • The tight, dense weave of tiny branches provides excellent shade and coverage, trapping organic debris to create a constant natural food source.
  • Extremely hardy and forgiving, this moss can be tied to wood, glued to stone, or simply left free-floating as a loose, tumbling shelter.

Care & Planting Instructions

  • Gently divide your portion into smaller clumps. Secure them to your driftwood or rocks using cotton thread, fishing line, or a tiny dab of gel superglue.
  • Please note that it is completely normal for live aquarium moss to contain some brown bits upon arrival. Once settled under proper lighting, it will quickly sprout lush, bright green new growth.
  • Maintain stable water conditions and avoid making sudden, drastic changes to your tank's chemistry, as rapid swings can trigger moss rot or melting.
  • While perfectly suitable for low-tech tanks, providing CO2 injection and high-quality liquid fertilizer will encourage much faster, thicker, and more vibrant green fronds.
  • Simply snip, rip, or separate the growing cushion with sharp aquascaping shears to scatter new colonies throughout your layout.
