Common Name: Rotala H'Ra, Rotala Gia Lai

Rotala h’ra is a new plant to the hobby that makes a delicate, yet dramatic back or mid-ground accent. When grown submerged, this stem plant has profuse thin, pointed red or orange leaves that typically grow from an ascending stem. Hailing from the central region of Vietnam, this plant is likely a variation of the species Rotala rotundifolia. Moderate to high lighting and low nitrates will yield the most vivid coloration in these plants. This plant can be grown emersed or submersed. When grown submerged, CO2 is highly recommended to achieve the best results. To achieve propagation take a cutting from one of the plant’s side shoots or axial roots and re-plant into the substrate.

Notes:

  • Photos show submerged versus emersed form. You may receive this plant in its emersed or submerged form depending on availability and seasonality. Click to learn more about Emersed vs. Submerged-Grown Aquatic Plants for Aquascaping.

  • Rotala has fragile leaves! Be sure to handle with care.

  • Final coloration is ultimately dependent upon the conditions this plant is kept in. This is a live plant meaning size, shape and color may vary.

  • Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.

  • Please be sure to remove this plant from its wrap. Remove the foam surrounding the roots and plant into a quality substrate. For instructions on how to properly prep “bunched“ aquarium plants, click here.

  • CO2 injection and quality aquarium soil will yield better growth.

  • Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.
