Schismatoglottis Roseospatha
Common Name: Schismatoglottis Roseospatha
Schismatoglottis Roseospatha is a new and exciting aquarium plant from the Sarawak region of Borneo, where it can be naturally found clinging to rocks near waterfalls. It resembles a unique cross between Anubias, Aridarum, and Bucephalandra, featuring narrow, pointy bright green leaves that sprout from thin brown or yellow stems. Highly versatile, it can be grown submerged or emersed, usually attached to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks rather than being buried in traditional aquarium substrate. This variety shines in the midground of freshwater aquascapes, where it will develop iridescent white dots and a subtle blue central tint under proper lighting within a planted tank.
Key Features & Notes
- Because it naturally evolves to withstand strong river currents, this plant develops an incredibly powerful root system that anchors firmly to stones and wood.
- Under quality aquarium LED lighting, the leaves display "shimmering" white dots, adding a layer of crystalline texture rarely seen in other species.
- With a height of 6–12 inches, its upright and narrow growth habit makes it perfect for filling vertical gaps in large rock formations or driftwood layouts.
- Coming from the same region as many premium Bucephalandra, this species adds a touch of exotic collector appeal to any aquascape.
Care Tips & Preparation
- This plant should be attached to rocks or driftwood. Never bury the rhizome in substrate, as this will cause the plant to rot and melt.
- Carefully remove the plant from its pot and clear away all rockwool from the roots. For a deep dive on prepping potted plants, click here.
- Avoid making drastic changes to your water parameters or lighting. Unstable conditions are the primary cause of leaf melt in new specimens.
- While this plant is hardy and low-maintenance, CO2 injection will yield much faster growth. We recommend researching your specific water chemistry to ensure your plant thrives.
- Final size and coloration depend entirely on your specific aquarium conditions. Please note that photos are a representation, and individual plants may vary.
- Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.
