The Sword roseĀ plant is a beautiful mid- or background plant that is an excellent choice for beginners to the planted aquarium. Sword rose plants produce wide, oblong leaves with beautiful striation, wavy texture, and a range of colors from pink to greenish brown. New leaves on the plant are pink or bronzy colored and will turn bright to dark green as they mature. These plants are easy to care for and do not require CO2 injection, but as with most plants, they do need a nutrient-rich substrate in order to really thrive. They will tolerate low to moderate lighting just fine, but higher lighting brings out more color in the leaves.
Sword rose plants will grow emersed or submerged. The emersed plant produces flowers that seed into the substrate. Submerged plants propagate through runners. To control the spread of Sword rose you can trim away the runners.

"I love ordering certain items from BucePlant, but I have not had much luck with their plants lately. The Echinodorus Rose that I ordered is not doing well. The pot came out of the packaging with six little plants that could be planted separately, which is nice. However, most of them had next to know roots. I had to cut almost ever leaf off of each plant due to being mostly rotted away with brown squishy stems. I planted them anyway because I know the leaves will most likely melt after being submerged in a tank. Currently only two of the plants look like they are still alive. One has new growth and the other has two leaves that haven't fully melted, but I am less hopeful about the second one. I would consider this a fluke, if it wasn't the second time I have received plants that have shown up with almost no roots and melted to the point of not growing after being planted. I have ordered from Buce many times in the past, mostly equipment and tank care products for my tank and have always found them to be reliable and affordable with good customer service, so I don't want this review to deter people from using this company. I am just not so sure I trust the plants at this point."

"My rose sword has been doing great and has definitely become a focal point of the tank. Pretty much everyone who has seen my aquarium calls it out as their favorite plant. The first picture is of the first few days after I planted them. They came in great condition. I think 2 leaves snapped off during shipment but I also got 1 or 2 more stems than I expected. Some stems had new leaves growing already and when I planted them in my tank, they pretty much just picked up right where they left off. The second picture is the rose sword now 2 months later and it's ginormous, looks incredible, and it is even pearling. I didn't realize how red new leaves get and that they stay bright red even a couple days after growing to full size (they go from red -> brown -> green after that). I'd definitely recommend the rose sword over a normal amazon sword if you are looking to add some red into your aquarium. For reference, I run CO2, moderate light, and dry dose iron + other fertilizers into the water column."
