Christmas Moss and Windelov Java Fern on Driftwood
Plant Profile
If you want to fern-ish your aquascape with something with a little more texture, this pre-built plant combo is the way to go. Instead of the standard smooth leaves of regular Java Fern, the Windelov version is famous for its distinct, finely branched leaf tips that look like underwater lace. We have paired this distinctive plant with a lush, velvety coat of classic Christmas Moss, all pre-attached to a natural piece of driftwood. Because both of these low-light legends are famously bulletproof, you can skip the sticky superglue drama and instantly drop a mature, high-end decor straight into your tank.
Key Features & Benefits
- Arrives pre-attached to a natural wood base, allowing you to bypass the stressful planting stage and instantly anchor a mature, two-in-one focal point in your tank.
- Combines the feathery, pine-like branches of Christmas Moss with the unique, lacy fronds of Windelov Java Fern for an incredibly detailed and striking visual contrast.
- The organic driftwood slowly releases beneficial tannins that naturally soften the water, mimicking wild tropical blackwater habitats that soft-water loving fish thrive in.
Care & Planting Instructions
- Position the driftwood piece directly onto your substrate or nestle it securely into your current hardscape layout, keeping the thick green Java Fern rhizome completely exposed to the water column to prevent rot.
- Weigh down the driftwood with a clean rock for the first few days if it is not fully waterlogged yet and tries to float.
- Maintain stable aquarium parameters and avoid making rapid, drastic water changes to protect both the fern and the moss from melting.
- Trim back the moss occasionally with sharp aquascaping shears to keep it compact and to prevent it from slowly shading out the slower-growing fern.
- Propagate your layout down the road by cleanly cutting the Java Fern along its thick rhizome, or by simply snipping and relocating small clumps of the thriving moss.
