Introduce a vibrant, lively energy to your aquarium with the gorgeous Oryzias Sp. Pink Medaka Rice Fish. This variant features a beautiful yellow-pink body beautifully contrasted by a shimmering, silvery belly. True to their reputation, these nano fish act as tiny pops of color that stand out brilliantly against green foliage in a planted tank. While they look spectacular from the front of a glass tank, Pink Medaka are also incredibly popular for pond-style setups and outdoor tubs, offering hobbyists a mesmerizing, unique bird's-eye view from above. Add a school and you’ll be making waves!

Behavior

  • These fish are exceptionally hardy, beginner-friendly, and adaptable to a wide variety of aquarium parameters, including brackish water setups.
  • In a standard home aquarium, these active fish are primarily mid- to top-level swimmers.
  • They are a deeply peaceful species that should be housed alongside other gentle nano fish and larger peaceful invertebrates.
  • They do best in schools of 6 or more and will display their best color and behavior when kept in appropriate numbers.
  • This species has the potential to jump, so a well-fitting lid or dense floating live aquarium plants are highly recommended for coverage.

Diet

Feeding Rice Fish is simple. They are omnivores with a healthy appetite and will eagerly eat a wide variety of fish food. To maintain their health, provide a balanced diet of high-quality flakes and micro pellets. They will also readily accept live or frozen foods, such as baby brine shrimp or daphnia, which mimic their natural diet and support optimal energy levels. Feed them small amounts once or twice daily.

"Thank you, thank you! It’s my first time caring for these little guys. I’ve actually never heard of them til I was doing some research on more uncommon hardy fish. These little guys got to me so fast and unscathed. They were perfectly secure in their packaging. I ordered 6 & accidentally got 7- they are all schooling and are currently stocked in a 20g with my betta."

The survivors are great!

"I had one DOA and another one that struggled after shipping. I've already talked to customer service about the DOA. The last four are doing great though! Happy and healthy it looks like. I was really worried about the holiday and they wouldn't ship before it and that was no problem at all."

Q&A

What are the temperature ranges
Hi Sherry, Thank you for reaching out. Rice fish have a wide temperature range but they do best kept in 65-72 degrees fahrenheit. Best regards, Buceplant Team
Are these fish dwarf shrimp compatible?
Hi Colleen, Thank you for reaching out to us. Rice fish are compatible with dwarf shrimp. They will do well with adult shrimp, but are able to eat baby shrimp. Having a good amount of plant coverage will allow the babies to hide and grow up. Best regards, Buceplant Team
