If you want to add an elegant and dramatic look to your tank, the Black Moscow Guppy is a great choice. These freshwater fish are famous for the solid, midnight-black coloration that covers them from nose to tail fin. They create a breathtaking, stark contrast against vibrant green aquarium plants or a light-colored sand substrate, making them a favorite for aquascapers.

Behavior

Black Moscow Guppies are celebrated for their energetic, non-aggressive personalities. While they are typically top-level swimmers, they will actively explore the mid and lower areas of the tank throughout the day.

  • Their exceptionally peaceful temperament makes them perfect candidates for community aquariums. They can be safely housed with other non-aggressive species.
  • While mature dwarf shrimp are typically safe, guppies may naturally snack on tiny shrimp fry. If you are breeding shrimp, we highly recommend adding dense aquarium plants and mosses to provide adequate coverage and survival hiding spots.
  • Guppies thrive best when kept in groups of at least 4 to 5 to encourage natural social behavior. Also, they are known to test their limits! Always keep a tight lid on your tank so they don't accidentally jump out!

Breeding

Because these are sold as a male and female pair, you will likely see some baby guppies (fry) in the near future! Guppies are livebearers, meaning they give birth to free-swimming young rather than laying eggs.

Diet

Guppies are enthusiastic omnivores and aren't picky eaters at all. To keep their coloration rich and their fins healthy, we recommend a varied diet of high-quality micro-pellets or tropical flakes and occasional treats of baby brine shrimp or bloodworms.
