Blyxa Japonica, aka Japanese Bamboo or Bamboo Plant, is native to the sunlit shallow pools and slow-moving streams of East Asia and became a Nature Aquarium staple thanks to Takashi Amano's frequent use of it for dense, grass-like thickets. Despite the stem-plant look, it actually grows in a soft rosette structure, staying rich green under moderate conditions but blushing gold, bronze, and red under high-intensity lighting, CO2, and nutrient dosing. At 4 to 8 inches tall, it's a natural midground centerpiece or transition layer between foreground carpets and background stems.

Care & Planting Instructions

• Remove lead weight and wrap (or foam) surrounding the base, then strip the lower inch of foliage so bare stems anchor cleanly into soil without rotting. 
  
• Use fine-tip pinsettes to push individual stems 1 to 2 inches into soil, spacing them about half an inch apart to ensure light reaches lower leaves.
• Provide medium-to-high lighting and pressurized CO2 injection; consistent fertilization with a liquid macro and micro formula yields robust, compact growth and deep golden-red coloration.
• Maintain stable water parameters and avoid drastic environmental shifts to prevent leaf melting or root rot.
