Product Overview

Ultum Nature Systems Controsand offers a versatile lineup of natural decorative sands and gravels designed to give any planted tank or freshwater aquarium a finished, professional look. Mojave is a fine-grain natural aquarium sand featuring a warm palette of golden to light brown granules that could pass for real desert sediment under the right lighting. It brings that sun-baked, dry-terrain warmth to planted tanks, riverbed pathways, and foreground accent zones, and the color only gets better with contrast against darker hardscape or bright green plants! Measuring between 0.4mm and 0.9mm, it's also a safe, comfortable sifting surface for Corydoras, dwarf shrimp, and other bottom dwellers.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Fine 0.4mm to 0.9mm granule sizing creates a uniform foreground bed ideal for desert-style scapes and pathways.
  • Warm golden and brown earth-tone palette delivers vibrant visual contrast against dark substrates and aquatic plants.
  • Non-abrasive granules protect delicate Corydoras barbels, loaches, and dwarf shrimp during active foraging.
  • Complements bright green plants, dark lava stone, and natural driftwood in diverse aquascaping styles.

Usage & Application Guidelines

  • Distribute the granules evenly across foreground areas, riverbed pathways, or dedicated detail zones.
  • Pour water gently over a plate or plastic barrier during filling to avoid disturbing your hardscape arrangement.
  • Pair with root tabs or layer over aquarium soil when planting heavy root-feeding species in sand zones.
  • Note that Mojave sand contains natural minerals that may slightly increase water hardness parameters.

Q&A

What is the best way to prepare the sand prior to using in the tank? Mine has arrived and I am ready to get started.
Hi Cari, We recommend thoroughly rinsing the sand under tap water until the water runs clear - this will limit how cloudy the water gets when flooded. After the water is clear add a little bit of dechlorinator to your sand and give it a mix, and then you should be good! Thank you, Team Buce Plant
