Selaginella sp. Brown
Common names: Spikemoss
Selaginella sp. Brown is a fast-growing, moisture-loving fern perfect for vivariums and terrariums. Like most Selaginella, it does not tolerate drying out, so keeping it consistently moist is key to its health and vibrant growth. In a live vivarium or terrarium setup, this species readily climbs upward on backgrounds and decor. It thrives in high humidity environments, but will tolerate slightly lower humidity if misted regularly. Under ideal conditions, it can grow quickly and may require occasional pruning to maintain the desired shape—either climbing or forming a bushy appearance.
This Selaginella prefers low to moderate light, making it easy to incorporate into shaded areas of your tank or terrarium. With proper care, it provides natural texture, and a fast-growing accent to any humid enclosure.
Notes:
- This is not an aquarium plant. Submerging it completely will result in the death of this plant.
- Selaginella Pulvinata works well in terrarium-like setups and should be partially shaded with good humidity.
- Remove the cotton surrounding the roots and plant into quality soil. For instructions on how to properly prep aquarium plants, click here.
- Yellowing of leaves indicates overwatering.
- Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.
