step-by-step setup + CARE
STEP 1 - Substrate
Wipe the Iota clean of dust and fingerprints with a microfiber towel before adding about 1-2" of substrate. Substrate can be laid flat in a traditional style, or at an angle to create a slope and utilize the vertical space. If you are using a thick layer sand, you may add a small layer of crushed lava gravel underneath for drainage.
STEP 2 - Hardscape
Place your hardscape as desired. Play with different combinations of stone and wood to find what looks best! Hint: The Iota Kit will already include a mix of perfectly sized stone and wood pieces that allow you plenty of layout options.
STEP 3 - Plants
Plant your plants as desired. UNS Pinsettes make for easier planting and allow you to reach the bottom of the Iota. Attach epiphytic plants to hardscape by simply placing, using small dabs of super glue, or tying with string. You may need to remove and replace hardscape during this process. Important: Mist your plants occasionally in order to prevent any drying out while planting!
STEP 4 - Water
Spray your new Iota with water. Make sure the substrate is completely saturated and the plants have been thoroughly misted. Flood only so the water line meets the substrate level (but no more) to avoid the growth of algae.
STEP 5 - Display
Display your Iota. It is recommended to keep it underneath an LED light (like the ONF Flat Nano+ Stand Light) with a timer set for 8 hours a day. This will ensure the maximum health and growth of your plants. For an Iota setup with only low-tech plants, you can place it next to a window that gets a lot of sunlight if desired.
STEP 6 - Maintain
To maintain your Iota, mist the plants thoroughly about once every 1-2 weeks. You will be the best judge of when your Iota needs to be misted! If your plants look dry or the substrate is not thoroughly saturated, then it's time to mist. Remove lid completely and set aside for a maximum of 30 minutes about once a week to provide aeration for plants.
