Dendroconche Annabellae (Bolbitis)
Common Name: Bolbitis annabellae, Dendroconche annabellae, Lecanopteris annabellae,
Dendroconche annabellae (formerly classified under Bolbitis) is a rare and striking fern native to Papua New Guinea that thrives in warm, humid environments. Known for its creeping rhizomes covered in dark brown scales, this unique species produces two distinct leaf forms. The sterile leaves (which don’t produce spores) are small, round, and stay close to the surface they grow on, like tree trunks. The fertile leaves (which produce spores) start with a similar round base but then grow into long, thin, tail-like shapes that stick out and carry the spore-producing structures. This unique growth pattern helps the plant spread in its natural habitat.
You can propagate Dendroconche annabellae by dividing its creeping rhizomes, ensuring each section has roots and a growing shoot. This fern thrives when mounted on wood or rock, mimicking its natural habitat. It prefers moderate light and consistent moisture without being waterlogged.
Notes:
-
This is a terrarium plant that does not do well when kept submerged long-term.
- Remove the cotton surrounding the roots and plant above a quality substrate. For instructions on how to properly prep aquarium plants, click here.
- Burying the rhizome will cause the plant to die.

Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.
- This plant's final size, coloration, and growth rate depend upon the plant's environment - Photos represent what you will receive and may vary.
