The Dymax CO2 Drop Checker is a great and essential option to monitor the CO2 levels in an aquarium. It is difficult to know how much CO2 is dissolved in the water and too little or too much can have devastating effects on the aquarium. Going off the number of bubbles in a bubble counter is not always a fool proof method to monitor CO2 concentrations in an aquarium. Too little CO2 may promote algae growth and poor plant growth, while too much CO2 will beĀ detrimental to livestock. With the Dymax CO2 Drop Checker, aquarist can easily know when the correct concentration of CO2 has been achieved in the aquarium.

Set Up:

  • Start by filling the drop checker half way with the CO2 Indicator Solution.
  • Attach the suction cup to the drop checkerĀ 
  • Gently place in the tank, being careful not the spill the indicator solution

How to Read:

  • Blue- CO2 concentration is too low
  • Green- CO2 concentration is good
  • Yellow- CO2 concentration is too high
  • Be aware that the drop checker takes 1-2 hours to react to the concentration of CO2 in the aquarium.Ā

    For a ten gallon tank should the drop checker be placed above the diffuser or on the opposite side of the tank?

    I bought the large drop checker, however it seems so tiny. On the front of the box it says Large in white lettering and Small in green lettering. How do I know I received the correct size?

    I put the 5 drops in, then 1.5 ml of my tank water it turned green right away. And is just staying dark green “ been in the tank for around 3 hours” Should it not be blue? I’m not injecting any co2

In smaller aquariums with a small amount of plants, the atmospheric CO2 is able to equilibrate with the water. Once you start adding more plants, the color my begin to change.     What size is recommended for a 20g tank? Also, if the small is recommended for a 20g is there any harm in going for the large? Then, I would know I could use the large on a larger aquarium. I'm just planning for the future because I'd like to have a four foot 80 gallon tank some day.
