We have nestled the brightly veined leaves of Fittonia albivenis on top of a weighted terra cotta sphere that is wrapped in a carpet of Christmas Moss. Because this combination is naturally easy to care for, you do not need to bury any roots or use special tools. You can simply place the ball onto the floor of your terrarium, vivarium, or paludarium. The Christmas Moss holds moisture around the base of the Fittonia, helping it grow while creating a neat, rolling green mound.

Care & Planting Instructions

• Position the clay ball directly onto your substrate or nestle it among your hardscape in terrariums, vivariums, or paludariums, keeping it strictly above the water line as Fittonia cannot survive fully submerged.
• Maintain high humidity and provide regular misting to keep the foliage hydrated and ensure the underlying Christmas Moss stays damp and healthy.
• Run the piece under low to medium indirect light to prevent the leaves of the Fittonia from scorching while keeping the moss vibrant and green.
• Trim back both the Christmas Moss and the Fittonia stems occasionally with sharp pruning shears to encourage bushier, more compact growth.
• Propagate easily by taking clean stem cuttings of the Fittonia or snipping sections of the moss to start new growth points.
