Ghost Wood delivers a dramatic glow-up the moment it hits the water, making it one of the most stunning choices for an aquascape. Dry, it starts pale and weathered, but once submerged, this aquarium driftwood transforms into a rich, deep mahogany that glows under quality LED lighting. Its smooth, sandblasted trunks and sweeping branches give a clean, sculptural look without the tangle of softer woods, making it ideal for defined, mature layouts. This wood is the one that really comes alive! Talk about a spooktacular glow‑up.

Product Features & Benefits

  • Unlike more twiggy varieties, Ghost Wood offers thick, smooth, and flowing lines.
  • The sandblasted surface transitions from a light beige to a vibrant, dark brown once waterlogged, adding a sense of evolution to your planted aquarium hardscape.
  • While a star in the aquarium, Ghost Wood’s clean finish makes it equally popular in vivariums and terrariums, where it won't rot easily in high-humidity environments.
  • This aquarium wood naturally aids in softening the water, creating a comfortable environment for acid-loving fish and shrimp.

Size Specifications

Preparation & Care

Ghost Wood's sandblasted finish means it needs a little prep time.

  1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
  2. The Floating Phase: This wood is buoyant. Because the pieces are often thick, they require a thorough soak to become fully waterlogged.
  3. Tannin Management: Ghost Wood leaches fewer tannins than Malaysian wood, but some tint is still to be expected. This forbidden tea look is easily managed by boiling the wood for 1–2 hours or soaking it in a separate container until the water runs clear. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag

Logistics Note: Due to the impressive size of our Large and Extra Large pieces, additional shipping costs may apply to ensure your "underwater art" arrives in one piece.

Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.

Beautiful branch- arrived with some damages

"Love the branch but it did arrive with some broken branches which was disappointing."

— Laura D. (4/5)

Great condition and as expected, but need better packaging

"The ghost wood was in great shape and was as expected. My only complaint is that the packaging was poor (just one sheet of packaging power in a large box with 4 pieces of ghost wood) which allowed the branches to move around and bang into each other. Amazingly, my pieces somehow weren't broken but it could have easily ended up differently. Otherwise, really happy."

— Jonathan D. (5/5)

"The branches arrived in great shape (some tiny bits had broken off, but I don't see how that could have been prevented, given the shape and fragile nature of the item) and are much larger than expected! Looking forward to adding these to my new vivarium."

— Hanako (5/5)

Would buy again

"I ordered two large pieces of this driftwood (should have just went with the 3 pack) and they are perfect for my aquascape. Was skeptical of ordering online before seeing the wood itself but can tell that the team at buceplant took the time to find unique pieces with their own character instead of picking up a twig and throwing it into packaging. Shipping was fast and will definitely be buying from here again. Thanks again team Buceplant!"
