Common Name: Hottonia Palustris, Featherfoil

Hottonia Palustris, native to Asia and Europe, is a delicate-looking aquatic stem plant with soft, feathery, bright green leaves that form fan-shaped patterns along an upright stem, giving it a fluffy look underwater. When grown emersed, it can produce small lavender flowers that float above the surface.

In the aquarium, this stem plant works beautifully in the midground to background. With good light and nutrients, it grows quickly and develops thicker, bushier tops, perfect for creating soft texture and contrast against broad-leaved plants. In lower light, it stretches taller and stays a bit more sparse. Regular trimming keeps it compact and encourages side shoots, helping you build that full, layered look instead of a single tall stem.

Notes:

  • Tissue culture plants are grown in vitro in a state of the art laboratory specialized in propagating aquatic plants. They provide the best option for those who want to ensure that absolutely zero unwanted pests, pesticides, or algae are introduced into the aquarium.
  • Remove tissue culture gel before planting. Simply wash the gel away or soak the plant in water and squeeze the gel off with your fingers.
  • Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.
