  • Unlike the heavier "forbidden tea" leaching of other woods, Manzanita is much lighter in tannin content. It’s perfect for hobbyists who want the wood look without a significant shift in water color.

Preparation & Care

A little extra prep goes a long way in maintaining its stunning appearance.

  1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
  2. The Floating Phase: Depending on the size, Manzanita will float a little initially. We recommend soaking it thoroughly or boiling it. A large stone or heavy decor may be placed on top to ensure a non-waterlogged piece of wood stays submerged.
  3. Tannin Control: If you want zero tint in your water, a quick 1-hour boil will fast-track the sinking process and remove any remaining surface tannins. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag

Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.

"I ordered 2 of the Medium 12-15 pieces. While they look great and the color is fantastic, they are very small for that category. One piece was only 11 inches long and the other was just above 12 inches at ~12. 25. I have a long aquarium and was really looking for something larger and longer. Both pieces were labeled as medium size."

Larger than I thought

"I ordered the 'small' pieces of driftwood, but they were larger than I expected. I did have to saw them into manageable pieces for my Nano tanks. The shapes are wonderful and I love the feel it gives to my small aquariums. I did boil them for several hours to release some of the tannins in the wood."
