Myriophyllum Elatinoides 'Snowflake' UNS Tissue Culture
Common Name: Myriophyllum Elatinoides 'Snowflake', Watermilfoil
Myriophyllum elatinoides, commonly known as Water Milfoil, is a beautiful stem plant known for its delicate, needle-like foliage and tall growth habits. Its vibrant, bright green color and fine-textured leaves make it an excellent choice for adding contrast, texture, and visual movement to the background of a planted aquarium. This species grows well in medium to high lighting conditions—typically around 2 to 4 watts per gallon. Under optimal lighting, Myriophyllum elatinoides exhibits rapid growth and produces dense, symmetrical whorls of foliage that resemble the branches of a pine or fir tree. In lower light, however, growth slows noticeably, and the iconic feathery leaves may appear more sparse.
Versatile in its placement, this plant can be planted into the substrate or left to float freely. When planted in small, spaced-out clusters, it creates a lush, forest-like effect, especially when contrasted against broader-leaved or darker-toned plants. With adequate lighting, spacing, and basic nutrient support, Myriophyllum can quickly become a soft, centerpiece or a dynamic backdrop that elevates the depth of your tank's layout.
Notes:
- Pruning will be required to ensure other plants are not shaded from lighting.
- Myriophyllum species makes a great midground or background filler plant choice!
- Relatively hardy and adaptable to a range of aquarium parameters.
- CO2 injection and quality aquarium soil will yield better growth.
- Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.
