Medaka ricefish are a hardy and adaptable freshwater species that works well in community aquariums, ponds and planted tanks!
The White Medaka is a species of Japanese Ricefish. Medaka are popular in pond-style tanks and provide a unique top-down view for the hobbyist to enjoy. Like other species of Ricefish, White Medakas are very hardy and adaptable to a wide variety of aquarium parameters and salinity levels, making them a solid beginner aquarium fish.
Ricefish are peaceful and should be kept in aquariums with other peaceful fish and larger peaceful invertebrates. Ricefish are social and should be kept in schools of 6 or more for good health and livelihood. Ricefish do have the potential to jump, so it is recommended that coverage be available if a well-fitting lid is not being used. Like most species of aquarium fauna, the White Medaka Ricefish will appreciate the addition of live aquarium plants to the tank as well.
Ricefish are omnivorous and will eat a wide variety of fish food. High-quality flakes, pellets, live or frozen will be readily accepted by Ricefish.
