Ghost Wood is a driftwood commonly used in vivariums, terrariums, and aquariums. Known for its smooth, sandblasted finish and sculptural flow, it is a favorite for driftwood tanks. While it arrives with a pale, desert-like complexion, once submerged, Ghost Wood transforms into a rich, deep mahogany that glows under quality aquarium LED lighting.

Product Features and Benefits

  • Sculptural Aesthetics: Unlike more twiggy varieties, Ghost Wood offers thick, smooth, and flowing lines.
  • Dynamic Color Shift: The sandblasted surface transitions from a light beige to a vibrant, dark brown once waterlogged, adding a sense of "life" and evolution to your planted aquarium hardscape.
  • Cross-Hobby Versatility: While a star in the aquarium, Ghost Wood’s clean finish makes it equally popular in vivariums and terrariums, where it won't rot easily in high-humidity environments.
  • Water Softening: This aquarium wood naturally aids in softening the water, creating a comfortable environment for acid-loving fish and shrimp.

Preparation and Care
Ghost Wood's sandblasted finish means it needs a little prep time.

  1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
  2. The Long Soak: This wood is buoyant. Because the pieces are often thick, they require a thorough soak to become fully waterlogged.
  3. Tannin Management: Ghost Wood leaches fewer tannins than Malaysian wood, but some tint is still to be expected. This forbidden tea look is easily managed by boiling the wood for 1–2 hours or soaking it in a separate container until the water runs clear. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag

Logistics Note: Due to the impressive size of our Large and Extra Large pieces, additional shipping costs may apply to ensure your "underwater art" arrives in one piece.

Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.
