Notes:

  • Vallisneria are heavy root feeders and should be planted deeply in quality aquarium soil.
  • Vallisneria grows very large and tall making them suitable for larger planted aquariums.
  • Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.
  • Please be sure to remove this plant from its wrap. Remove the foam surrounding the roots and plant into a quality substrate. For instructions on how to properly prep “bunched“ aquarium plants, click here.
  • CO2 injection will yield better growth.
  • Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.

Vallisneria Americana is a popular background plant for any aquarium.  This plant grows fast and tall, spreading quickly to cover your aquarium.  The leaves are long like other Vallisneria species and grow in a twisted shape which can have a spectacular effect when fully grown in.

This plant is said to tolerate some levels of salinity so may be able to survive in a brackish environment.  Propagation is easy and straight forward. This plant will produce lateral shoots which can be cut and replanted.

Some of the Vallisneria seemed

"Some of the Vallisneria seemed a little "under the weather" so to speak. I had to trim brown leaves but I think the plants will survive. They may have suffered in shipping. . . . . . . . . And again, I seem to have trouble keeping "stem" plants anchored in the soil. After a day or two they float to the top of my 100 gl aquarium."

Very happy!

"Every time I’ve ordered Vallisneria from other stores, they arrived melted or chopped to bits. But all 8 bunches I ordered from Buceplant arrived whole and almost entirely healthy! There were only a few melted leaves, which is a very good ratio. I can’t wait for them to take off!"

Q&A

How many plants in one bunch and their height?
Hi Bob, Thank you for reaching out. Each bunch may contain 3-5 plants depending on their size. The height can range from about 8-10 inches, but when given ideal growing conditions the plant will grow much taller. Feel free to reach out to us at support@buceplant.com for any questions or concerns. We are always happy to help! Best Regards, Buceplant Team
I just set up an aquarium after a 25+ year break. In the past I had sand in the bottom instead of aquarium gravel, and sponge filters instead of a power filter. I used to grow jungle val and really liked it. Will it grow in my aquarium gravel or do I need some other type of substrate. The sand made it hard to control my alkalinity because of the minerals but the plants loved it.
Hi Cal, Thank you for reaching out to us and welcome back to the hobby. Ideally, jungle val should be grown in a nutrient rich substrate such as UNS ControSoil. This soil will benefit most of your plants and help balance your aquarium. Please feel free to contact us at support@buceplanthelp.zendesk.com for any additional questions or concerns. We are always happy to help! Best Regards, Buceplant Team
