Black Mountain Seiryu is the darker, more intense cousin of the iconic Seiryu Stone. Prized for its deep charcoal-grey tones, this natural stone offers a moodier, high-contrast alternative to the traditional light grey variety. The signature craggy texture and endless natural details in these stones allow any hobbyist to recreate the complexity of a weathered mountain range. This natural rock is a perfect pick for aquascaping and Iwagumi layouts, as its sharp edges and white mineral veining provide a dramatic backdrop for vibrant green aquatic plants. Black Mountain Seiryu is also suitable for non-aquarium use and will work beautifully as a sophisticated accent in terrariums, paludariums, or similar enclosures.

Stones vary in shape, size, and density. Pieces from packages will range from 3-10 inches.

Notes:

  • Seiryu may slightly raise pH and water hardness. Controsoil can help balance that out.
  • If you are looking for larger stones, a minimum weight may be required. Larger stones = higher weight. Email our team if you need assistance.
  • We recommend rinsing stones thoroughly before use to remove any natural dust or sediment.
  • Stone coloration darkens when wet.

Black Mountain Seiryu Stone

"Gorgeous, totally unique specimens. I asked Buce to help me find a center piece rock for my 8 gallon tank and they sent 2 with perfect shape and size and 2 smaller pieces. I ordered 4 pounds because I wanted more choice when I start my design. I want to build a tiny SHOW tank to go with my 20 gal planted, community tank. This Seiryu stone is beautiful. It failed the vinegar test, so I'll test often for hardness and pH until I see stability."

Q&A

Hi There, I am looking to set up an Iwagumi style tank, using the black mountain seiryu stone. I plan to follow the traditional recipe using the 2/3 rule, etc…, but I do plan to use more than three stones. I would like to create a little bit of a mountain valley effect with a small amount of natural colored sand. Would you be able to advise me on how much stone to purchase? I plan to purchase the UNS 45U 9 gallon tank. Thank you for any advice.
Hi Matt, Thank you for reaching out to us. We would recommend getting 20 pounds of stone as this will give you more options to work with. Best regards, Buceplant Team
How many big rocks do I need for a 75 gallon African Cichlid peacock tank
Hi David, Thank you for reaching out to us. For a 75 gallon African Cichild aquarium, we would recommend 4-6 large pieces surrounded by many smaller pieces. This will provide lots of hiding places for the fish. Best regards, Buceplant Team
