Red Lava Gravel is a highly porous gravel suitable for freshwater aquarium use.  It is inert and will not affect the water chemistry in your aquarium.  The light weight granules and high porosity makes it versatile to use as both a substrate and filter media by providing plenty of surface area for beneficial bacteria and bio film to colonize.  This is our preferred substrate for keeping Neocaridina shrimp such as Cherries.

I like this gravel. The

"I like this gravel. The size is great all very regular. But it was very very dirty and it took a lot of work to get it clean. However I have been fed to the lava fields in Hawaii and I have walked away covered in the red dirt so I was anticipating that red dust. I like the way it looks Because it’s different than anything else I’ve seen. So if you don’t mind a little extra wash time, this is an unusual and clever choice for your substrate."
